Why colours matter in interiors

Colour shapes how a space feels — its light and its calm.

Why colours matter in interiors

Colour is far more than a backdrop — it shapes the way we experience a space. Colours stir emotion and memory and carry cultural meaning: blue can feel calming to one person and cold to another; red may read as energetic, romantic or tense, depending on the setting.

Indoors, colour sets the mood — whether for a cosy home, a lively café or a focused place to work. Neutral tones feel timeless, yet in excess they can fall flat. Bold colours add character, but used too freely they begin to overwhelm.

The easiest way to introduce colour is through accents — cushions, a rug, a painting or a single painted wall. Small touches like these change the feel of a room without a full renovation.

In the end, colour is personal. Choose what makes you feel at home in your own space.
